Alan is a Partner of C&M Legal and leads the firm’s family and property teams. Alan is a vastly experienced lawyer who is considered an expert in all aspects of family law. He regularly appears in the Family Court and, as such, is often appointed as ‘Lawyer for Child’ in contested cases about parenting orders. He has specialist knowledge and experience in the protection of personal and property rights including adoptions, parenting orders and matters of relationship property.As a lawyer appointed by the Central Authority under the Hague Convention to represent parties from overseas whose children have been wrongfully detained in New Zealand, Alan can assist in cases where children have been abducted to overseas countries and is often appointed to represent children in Hague Convention cases. Alan also has considerable experience as a criminal advocate, having conducted 45 jury trials over his career.

As leader of the firm’s property law team, Alan also has considerable experience in all aspects of property law and is able to offer a prompt and cost effective conveyancing service in relation to both residential and commercial real estate.

Outside of the firm, Alan is married with three children and a proud member of the Taranaki Rugby Referees’ Association. He was a member of the board of the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust from its inception until retiring in early 2010, and he was also the former chair of the Board of Trustees for Francis Douglas Memorial College and the vice-president of the Taranaki Branch of the New Zealand Law Society.
