Alan Johnston
Alan, known as ‘AJ’ is a Consultant for C&M legal and has been a member of the firm for over 10 years.
AJ commenced in practice over 40 years ago as a law clerk before being admitted to the bar in February 1982. AJ’s 40 plus years of experience has included criminal defence, insolvency and companies winding up, residential conveyancing and more particularly, almost all jurisdictions of the Family Court since its inception on 1 October 1981.
AJ has undertaken numerous cases involving parenting and guardianship disputes acting for both parties and children, via his role as Lawyer for Child, as well as acting as lawyer for subject person on appointment by the Family Court. AJ is often instructed by the Central Authority in Hague Convention cases and is also engaged in relationship property and family protection matters.
Outside of the firm AJ was a foundation trustee of the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust and assisted with the legal work required to create the Trust. He has been a vice-president of the former Taranaki District Law Society, a member and presiding member of the Former District Legal Services Committee and presiding member of the Local standards committed for the Law Society. AJ has served two terms of the Board of Trustees for Frances Douglas Memorial College, the last of which as Board Chair. AJ is an active member of the Taranaki Rugby Referees Association and is currently its judiciary officer.
AJ is a keen golfer when injuries and surgeries permit and enjoys his rugby. He and wife, Claire, are proud of their now adult children and their various achievements including now producing their first grandchild
